Shock Treatment: Hi there Disket! Thanks for participating in my interview! Tell me about how you all met and decided to combine your rock n roll super powers to form Disket?
DISKET: We’ve known each through the music scene in New York and through the bands our members play in. Mary and Claudia from Baby Shakes, Myke from Mala Vista, Roberto from Vaxine and Dani DJs around NYC. Claudia was the first to throw around the idea of jamming together. It was pretty casual at first, we practiced and wrote songs for about a year before we even had a name.
Shock Treatment: So Keith Richards has to have a Shepherd's Pie before each performance and Alice Cooper has to watch Kung Fu movies to get into character before he hits the stage. Do any of you have any pre-performance rituals?
DISKET: Oh is that what KR gets?!! Then we need Choripan and Cuchifritos before we set one foot on stage! Sometimes we take a dip in the east river before a show, you should try it. It’s great for the muscles.
Shock Treatment: When you guys aren’t rockin’ and rollin’ and whatnot, what do you enjoy doing in the big scary city of New York?
Going to shows mostly. Since it’s NY there’s always great bands that come though on tour from all over the world, gotta keep up with what’s going on and support other bands, When its nice out we enjoy a good backyard BBQ, Dani and Roberto are grill masters
Shock Treatment: And speaking of New York, with so much going on in there, do you feel like it’s tough for new bands to get noticed or stand out?
DISKET: People will do anything to get noticed, there’s a lot of gimmicks. What gets our attention is good catchy songwriting, you don’t even have to be the best musician. There's a lot of talent in this city and of course that helps but if you genuinely love what you’re doing and you’re having fun doing it, that really comes across to an audience.
Shock Treatment: Tell me a bit about the A-Side of the new 7” “Vamos A Ganar”. It sounds like someone is a big CAI fan?
DANI: With all due respect the song is called Vamos a Ganar not Vamos a Perder. So no, clearly not a CAI fan. :)
Shock Treatment: So Tim Warren mastered the two songs on the new 7”, can you tell me about how the recording went for these songs?
DISKET: Yes Tim Warren mastered the songs, he's great! Baby Shakes have worked with him for a long time. We recorded with Scott Tamucci, someone that Myke has recorded with before. That was our first time recording together and it went really well. We banged out 4 songs in no time and the energy was great, Scott was super easygoing and understood the sound we wanted so that helped.
Shock Treatment: What single band or musician had the most influence on you?
DISKET: It’s hard to pick just one. When it comes to songwriting, we’re heavily inspired by Cock Sparrer, The Crack, The Clash, The Professionals and Northern Ireland punk, stuff like that. We admire newer bands like Béton Armé, Home Front, Mess...there’s so many great current bands out there right now which is exciting.
Shock Treatment: What’s the single best piece of advice about being in a band that anyone ever gave you that you still follow to this day? And in turn, what advice would you give someone starting a band now?
DISKET: Start playing music with the intention of doing it because you love it, just have fun.
Having no egos is a big one, you won’t last long if you have one, people will eventually get sick of you.
Shock Treatment: What does 2026 have in store for Disket?
DISKET: We’re in the process of recording a full-length LP at Deep Dive in Brooklyn which we’re super stoked about. And then once that’s out, we’ll have some plans for touring. We have other exciting things in the works that we can’t announce just yet.
Shock Treatment: Where can people go to hear your music or buy your records?
DISKET: You can buy our record at our shows or order directly through General Speech. We're also on the usual streaming platforms and on bandcamp.
