Like Dr. Alan Grant from Jurassic Park (R.I.P. Sam Neill) I'm a digger. Except unlike Dr. Grant I don't dig for dino bones, I dig for music you see. One day a few months ago I noticed that my old pal Daniel (formerly of AZ's The Wongs) is now living in Boston and is now in a raging new band called Lithophones. I noticed his band was playing with the mighty Sleeveens and noticed there was a third band on the bill. A band I've never heard of called Adult Learners. So, like the audio archeologist that I am, I went digital digging for anything Adult Learners. I found their Bandcamp and at the time, they only had some demos available for listening. But even those raw songs were super impressive to me. So much so, that I HAD to DM them and let them know how I felt. As many of you know (especially those in other bands that I've done this to) if I hear something online that I really love, I will message the band and tell them so. I highly encourage everyone to do this by the way! So I got a message back informing me of this upcoming 7" which excited me greatly!
So fast forward a few months or so and I am now holding this amazing record in my hands (well, not currently because I'm typing) but you get the picture. It's actually sitting here next to me if you must know. It's sitting here next to me, staring at me with a watchful eye, making sure I don't say anything mean or upsetting. But why would I do a thing like that?! This is a great record that has songs about boredom, loneliness, breakups, and rejection. All those things that timeless rock 'n' roll records from the likes of The Ronettes, The Crystals, or Buddy Holly had. Things that everyone goes through and can relate to personally. I don't think I can pick a favorite song on this record, I like them all. If you need a shot of pure pop adrenaline straight to your heart done in a Nikki Corvette, Ramones, Bobbyteens style with minimalist production and a sprinkle of keyboards thrown in the mix, then Adult Learners will become your new drug of choice and you'll be hooked and begging for more at first listen.
