Interview conducted with DSA vocalist Grant Peligroso
Grant: If you come and see us play you are likely to see me (Grant) on vocals with Chas on Guitar, Marty on bass and Harry on drums. We sometimes have other members come back and stand in, so you could also see Mike or Jack on drums and Wonder Boy on bass.
Shock Treatment: What’s the band’s origin story? How did you all meet and decide to play music together?
Grant: Originally we met through skateboarding and music was our creative outlet during the winter months and/or when the weather was bad.

Grant: We describe ourselves as a ‘punk rock band’ and have used ‘skate punk’ and ‘skate rock’ in the tags, to reach out to other skateboarders. In terms of the bond between the music and skating, I feel that the energy, freedom to express ourselves and attitude are the same in both areas.
Shock Treatment: And speaking of skate punk, Brian Brannon of JFA does guest vocals on the song “I Don’t Belong” from your 2025 LP Songs of Hate. How did that all come about?
Grant: We’ve been in touch with Brian for a number of years and he has been supportive of us the whole time. When we suggested that he could make a cameo appearance on our album, he was stoked and so were we. Of course we have been JFA fans since we were kids, so It’s an honour to have Brian’s involvement.
Shock Treatment: Speaking of your records, you guys have self released all of your music and had your last two releases put out by No Front Teeth Records. How did you hook up with Marco?
Grant: We met Marco in the shop, All Ages Records in London. Through our mutual friend and shop owner, Nick. Marco and I were already familiar from seeing each other at the same shows etc. We like what Marco does at NFT, so it made sense to collaborate with him and reach more people like yourself.

Shock Treatment: The band has been around since 2002. Does punk rock mean anything more to you now (or maybe less) than it did back when you guys started out?
Grant: Personally, it has always been and felt the same for me, even before we started DSA.

Shock Treatment: You guys are currently based in Reading, Berkshire UK yeah? How does your hometown crowd treat you guys, are they an enthusiastic bunch when the mighty D.S.A. takes the stage?
Grant: es, we are based in Reading. The hometown crowd treats us well. We only play in Reading once or twice a year, which is deliberate and makes it feel special when we do play at home. We enjoy the variety of playing in different towns to reach and meet more people,if you want us to come to your town, reach out and we’ll see what we can do.

Grant: We always enjoy sharing the stage with our friends in Rage DC and/or Blatoidea, we’ve known both of these bands for a long time and we’re down with them.
Shock Treatment: What’s in store for D.S.A. in the near or not so near future?
Grant: Well, we’ll keep playing live and get our latest record ‘Songs Of Hate’ out there. We will also be writing more songs and working up new ideas. I’ve been designing some new merch and we’ve got some other great surprises in the pipeline, so watch this space.
Shock Treatment: Where can people go to follow the band and buy or listen to your music?
Grant: On the social channels it’s @dsapunkband - we mostly use Instagram these days. You can hear and buy our stuff via Bandcamp which is also dsapunkband.
