Making Mixtapes with Taxi Girls!

Shock Treatment: Let’s start off with some introductions! Who’s all in Taxi Girls and what does everyone do in the band? Gabrielle - Lead guitar back vocals Vera - Guitar, bass, lead vocals Jamie - Bass, guitar, lead vocals Lynn- Drums, back vocals Shock Treatment: How did you all meet and decide to form the band? J - Lynn and I met up to discuss starting a new band and one of the members of Dirty Cheetah (Lynn’s other band) mentioned that we should check out Vera! We started jamming together and it was a great connection. We added Gab a couple of years ago and it’s been complete ever since. We also have a lot of replacements filling in here and there and they are always super fun! Static by Taxi Girls    Shock Treatment: I've read Taxi Girl's sound being compared to everyone from The Distillers to Nikki Corvette! How would you describe your music to someone that’s never heard the band before? V - Tidy Punk. You can hear elements of all kinds of genres, from old school punk, ...

Xray Xeroxx - Brainwashing The Populace LP review

I want AI to consume the world; I want people to bathe in it, to roll around in it. I want AI music, AI movies, and AI literature—I can't get enough of AI, I'm telling you! The more AI comes in and cleans up all of our poor grammar, production and mixing errors, slurs in speech, sloppy chords, etc., the better off we'll be, you'll see. Then you're going to remember all this and think to yourself, "My goodness, that old, stale fart El Maestro Castro was totally right about all of it!" I can't even wait until robots are cooking my food (hey, at least I know they won't farmer-blow in my cheesesteak if I give them a weird look!). I even want robots chauffeuring my ass around every week to the comic book and record stores! I want to be carted around to shows, especially the downtown ones that are a nightmare to park at! AI will be our best pals; it'll really "get me." I bet it won't look at me all cockeyed when I want it to high-five m...

An Interview with Badzy!

I play guitar, I write some songs and I sing some backups too. I like lasagna and chicken parm but I’m more partial to soup, salad and breadsticks. Jacob: I write songs, sing and play guitar. I like italian food as well. Shock Treatment: Tell me about how BADZY came together out there in New Orleans? Ashley: I met Jacob and Ali through my husband, they all skated and did punk rock shit together. They would come over for cookouts and eventually we all started jamming together. Once we decided to ...

Jacket Burner: The Interview

Shock Treatment: So Mr. Burner, what drove you to want to make music yourself as opposed to going to the local rock ‘n’ roll hot spots and doing some band recruiting? Jacket Burner: To be honest with you that decision mostly came from being a loner. I don’t have many friends (please weep for me). I guess I’ve moved around a lot in life so I’m well used to being isolated and doing my own thing. Plus having to explain songs to a bunch of other people sounds like absolute torture. Fuck that. Musicians are fuckin weirdos mostly from what I gather (myself included) Shock Treatment: Being a few years into this musical project, are you starting to feel the itch to play these songs live at all?   Jacket Burner: I’d love to play live but it would be a logistical nightmare for me. Where I live is all farmers and stupid feeble old ladies. Nobody even knows what punk rock is in this town! I think it would be a great show tho. Maximum intensity + maximum rock n roll action / posturing. If there...

An interview with Gabriele of Goodbye Boozy Records!

Shock Treatment: So Gabriele, tell me about how you first got into punk music? Gabriele: When I was young, I started out listening to hard rock, then moved on to heavy metal and thrash metal. Around the age of 18, I met Marco Sigismondi: he sang in a local hardcore punk band called Digos Goat and also ran a fanzine called Road To Ruin. That really opened my eyes to a world I didn’t know: the DIY hardcore punk scene—black-and-white covers, self-published zines, fixed prices for records and fanzines—a completely different way of doing things that I wasn’t familiar with, partly because I was born and live in a small town in central-southern Italy. But hardcore punk made its way there too, albeit a little late, and from that moment on, things were never the same. Shock Treatment: So What made you decide to want to start the record label instead of playing in a band? Gabriele: Because back then, as a kid, I didn’t play any musical instruments and it had never even crossed my mind; some of m...
