The Wild Ones Interview!

The Wild Ones were a fun female four piece shakin’ and shimmyin’ band from Santa Cruz, California. The band played a wonderful style of fun, sun kissed 60’s garage Rock N’ Roll. One of the things that set this band apart is the heart and sincerity that was fixed into their music. This added an inimitable style to their music and made repeated listens to Wild Ones records a must. Sadly though the world is a little less feral now, The Wild Ones played their last show on February 21, 2014 at the Jury Room with tour mates Bummer City. Here’s hoping these ladies return to music in some form or another. Their talents will be missed. An Interview with Sex Crime!

Gathered together in September of 2012, Sex Crime is a swashbuckling synth-punk Rock N’ Roll faction causing a commotion in Portland, Oregon. This band possesses all the greatness of it’s members former bands: the raging guitar hooks of The No Talents, the manic energy of The Epoxies and unrefined street punk power of The Rickets, just to name a few. They put it all in a big black fiery cauldron, add some black magic spells to it, and pour it all over wax for you to enjoy. If you are a fan of any of these guy’s and gal’s former bands, and I don’t know why you wouldn’t be, you will dig Sex Crime in a major way. If you’re not, this is a great place to start! This interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on March 13th, 2014 Shock Treatment: Please introduce yourselves and how do you contribute to the Sex Crime pogo machine? Celia: Ryan: guitar, vocals, Cecilia: keyboards, vocals, pogo, Holly: bass, vocals, bang bang Tim: stand up drums, vocals The band is based in Portland but wh...

Hey Look, It's toyGuitar!

Musically, toyGuitar picks up right where Jack’s former band One Man Army’s She’s an Alarm EP left off. Jack continues his streak of churning out snappy, quick paced, ultra melodic punk rock. This however isn’t your doom/gloom/death and destruction are imminent style of punk rock though. San Francisco’s tG play a style of music that sends you soaring into the stratosphere and before you know it you’re looking at your troubles far below you where they now seem insignificant. Their self titled EP on Adeline Records, that came out in the latter part of 2013, is an adrenaline shot straight into the heart of life itself, its music that urges you to live fast and take chances. Once you play this record all the way through: you’re unbreakable! This interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on June 11th, 2014 Interview by Jay Castro Please introduce yourself and how you contribute to toyGuitar: Hi, I’m Jack and I play the guitar and sing. Miles plays the other guitar and sings as well....

A Conversation with Dr Frank!

Frank Portman aka Dr Frank writes books and pop songs that are packed full of humor, angst, and awkwardness that everyone can relate to whether they care to admit it or not. Frank has the unique ability to speak to the inner teenager within you. His words reignite fires you thought long extinguished in parts of your soul and bring you to a state of glorious adolescence no matter what age you’re feeling. They say youth is wasted on the young. This phrase becomes null and void when you enter the universe of Frank Portman! This Interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on March 6th, 2014 Shock Treatment: You have written two full-length young adult novels King Dork in 2006 and in 2009 Andromeda Klien. What or whom inspired you to want to write and particularly young adult fiction? Dr. Frank: With me it’s not a case of having a burning desire to be a novelist and making it happen. It was a suggestion that I give it a try, as a way of possibly making a little extra money. I w...

The One and Only Paul Collins!

Paul Collins is a Rock N’ Roll warrior. He has been playing his brand of honest, infectious power pop, new wave, Rock N’ Roll, whatever you want to call it for almost 40 years. This man along with his band, are out there fighting for your soul. Traveling the world many times over and making new music using there own blood sweat and tears. Paul isn’t some fat cat making a couple of festival appearances a year waving at his fans like some kind of pathetic mascot, living off his royalties. This man is out fighting a war, dug deep in the jungles of battle, waging combat against all these posturing rock stars. These are the kinds of people that sour so many against guitar rock and driving them to dull, soulless electronic pop music. If in fact Rock N’ Roll was at proper war, and we were all it’s soldiers, then Paul Collins would be our commanding General! Interview by Jay Castro This interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on March 6th, 2014 Shock Treatment: I read that as a kid y...
