A Conversation with The Richmond Sluts

San Francisco’s Richmond Sluts play a blend of New York Dolls style glam, Question Mark and The Mysterians garage with a cut of mid ‘70’s Jagger/Richards strut stirred up and served flawlessly on a shiny silver platter by someone wearing a feather boa. What I like most about this band is they can crank out some wildly catchy party anthems as well as songs that delve deep into the darkness of human emotion. I’m glad some bands realize the importance of not only having great music for when the party’s in high gear but for the mornings after as well. This interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on May 16th, 2014 Interview by Jay Castro Please introduce yourselves and how you contribute to the Richmond Sluts. SHEA ROBERTS - vocal / guitar CHRIS BELTRAN - bass JUSTIN LYNN - organ / vocal KC KOZAK- skins JESSE NICHOLS - guitar Where are you all from originally and how did you all meet and decide to play music together? Interview with Average Times

Mere moments into the opening song from Average Times debut album the band quickly and eagerly throws back the curtain and reveals all of the fantastic influences they’ve collected over time. These are sons and daughters of punk from the last 20 or so years, the salad days of Rip Off, Dirtnap, Sympathy for the Record Industry, Crypt Records and many others. What Average Times seems to have done is gone and gathered everything that was great about so many of the bands from that time and the unique sound they created that set that era apart and discard the dead weight. They seize all they have learned and experienced, melt it and shape it into a crude yet sharp prison style weapon and stab you in the forehead with it and after they’re done you beg for more! This interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on May 8th, 2014 Interview by Jay Castro Please introduce yourselves and what you throw into the Average Times band? CURTIS: This is Curtis (Guitar, Vocals) STEPH: Stephanie...

Black Mambas Are Here!

The Black Mambas are the kind of folks that would roar up to the local high school hop in black leather jackets, a ’57 Chevy, kick the nice vocal group, in matching blue powdered suits that was performing a nice slow dance number, off the stage, plug in their instruments and immediately create a tornado of lawlessness on the dance floor. Imagine if Gene Vincent and His Blue Caps got into a knife fight behind the American Legion Hall with The Dead Boys and the members of each band that were still standing dusted themselves off, went inside and started playing together. Black Mambas are full throttle, all engines on, crash and wrath Rock N’ Roll! This Interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on May 8th, 2014 Interview by Jay Castro Please introduce yourselves and how you contribute to the Black Mambas gang. ERIC MARTINEZ: I play bass guitar. DORIAN CHAVEZ: I play guitar. MICHAEL PRICE: Singer. LEROY MARTINEZ: Drummer. How did you all meet and decide to play music together? EM: ...

The Rich Hands Interview

San Antonio’s The Rich Hands sound like early Rolling Stones covering Buddy Holly with a bit more dirt and fuzz collected around the edges, which serves in adding warmth and charisma to the music. What separates these three lads from the rest of the hungry pack is the genuine, hearts on their sleeves style approach to their music. At first listen to their dazzling LP, Dreamers, on Fountain Records, you can tell they take their craft seriously. With all the overproduced electro pop rubbish floating around youth culture lately and things getting worse with each passing year, knowing there are bands forming out there like The Rich Hands help me sleep soundly at night. The future of Rock N’ Roll rests safely in Rich Hands! This interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on May 1st, 2014 Interview by Jay Castro Please introduce yourselves and how you give to The Rich Hands. NICK: I'm Nick and I play drums. MATT: My name is Matthew and I play bass for The Rich Hands. CODY: I...

Petty Things Interview!

Petty Things unleash a murky, swirling psychedelic garage rock much like their forefathers did in The Seeds and The Count Five, and other bands in the mid to late 1960’s that still held on to their Rock N’ Roll roots, but just took it to a wildly new and chaotic level. Petty Things have tapped into the benevolent and malevolent spirits of the Sonorant Desert itself and channel these transcendental energies to us in song form, much like a Native American Shaman. If you listen to Petty Things songs carefully the mysteries of the universe shall be revealed unto you. This interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on April 24th, 2014 Interview by Jay Castro Shock Treatment: Please introduce yourself and how you contribute to Petty Things? Jordan: Hello, my name is Jordan Owen and I play guitar, sing, and write the songs for Petty Things. Where are you all from originally and how did you all meet and decide to play music together? Everyone in the band is either from Phoenix or Tempe,...

The Black Cheers Interview!

When I was trolling around on The Black Cheers Facebook page someone on there mentioned they sounded like Gary Glitter mixed with Bad Brains. At first read I threw my head back and scoffed at how absurd that sounded, but for some reason that really stuck with me. The more I thought about it, it wasn’t too far off the mark to describe these Boston blokes’s brand of melodic punk rock. Black Cheers hit pretty hard but don’t shy away from jabbing the melody with the left immediately following that right hook to the jaw. Boston has a rich Rock N’ Roll history and bands like Black Cheers just keep adding to that long and distinguished list. This interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on April 17th, 2014 Interview by Jay Castro Please introduce yourself (or selves) and how you contribute to the Black Cheers mob? Dan: Hey, I'm Dan and I play Guitar & sing, like a fucking ding-a-ling. Chris plays better guitar than I do, and sings back ups (He is mostly a kind and gen...

Interview with The Plain Dealers!

Imagine a 747 Jet Liner flying over The Atlantic at night in heavy turbulence. You’re flanked between Johnny Rotten on your left and Henry Rollins to your right. Suddenly the cabin pressure drops and the plane begins a sharp descent straight down towards pitch black ocean waters. Everyone assumes it’s the storm’s doing, but then you and your aisle mates look out the window and in between lightening flashes you catch the profile of that goblin from the Nightmare at 20,000 Feet Twilight Zone episode straddling the engine fiendishly tearing it to shreds. This somewhat describes what I experienced the first time I heard Cleveland’s Plain Dealers. They take ‘70’s British punk and tack it to a molten slab of 80’s American hardcore. And what you’ve got is some of the meanest, snottiest, white knuckle punk rock either side of the Atlantic has heard in quite some time. This interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on  Interview by Jay Castro Shock Treatment: Please introduce...

An Interview with Tyred Eyes

Hailing from the beautiful city of Göteborg, Sweden (I haven’t actually been but I’ve seen pictures and it makes me want to drop everything and move there right now!), these three lads and a lovely lady create tremendously melodic and charismatic Rock N’ Roll music that falls somewhere between a less reverb drenched Raveonettes and The Ramones. The band can excel at introspective slower numbers to urgent garage punk. It’s not often a band can pull something like that off without sounding contrived, but Tyred Eyes run it radiantly with ease and style! This interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on  Interview by Jay Castro Shock Treatment: Please introduce yourself and how you contribute to Tyred Eyes. Hello. My name is Erik Toresson and I play electric bass in the rock band Tyred Eyes. I also write some of the songs. The other members are: Martin Toresson, Johanna Hellqvist and Joel Bjurbo. Where are you all from originally and how did you all meet and decide to pl...

The Wild Ones Interview!

The Wild Ones were a fun female four piece shakin’ and shimmyin’ band from Santa Cruz, California. The band played a wonderful style of fun, sun kissed 60’s garage Rock N’ Roll. One of the things that set this band apart is the heart and sincerity that was fixed into their music. This added an inimitable style to their music and made repeated listens to Wild Ones records a must. Sadly though the world is a little less feral now, The Wild Ones played their last show on February 21, 2014 at the Jury Room with tour mates Bummer City. Here’s hoping these ladies return to music in some form or another. Their talents will be missed. This interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on March 13th, 2014 Interview by Jay Castro Shock Treatment: Please introduce yourselves and how you contribute to the Rock N’ Roll machine known as The Wild Ones? Belle: Rachael–Lead guitar and vocals, Belle-Rhythm guitar and vocals, Hilary-Bass and back up vocals, Marisa-Drums Where are you all from or...

An Interview with Sex Crime!

Gathered together in September of 2012, Sex Crime is a swashbuckling synth-punk Rock N’ Roll faction causing a commotion in Portland, Oregon. This band possesses all the greatness of it’s members former bands: the raging guitar hooks of The No Talents, the manic energy of The Epoxies and unrefined street punk power of The Rickets, just to name a few. They put it all in a big black fiery cauldron, add some black magic spells to it, and pour it all over wax for you to enjoy. If you are a fan of any of these guy’s and gal’s former bands, and I don’t know why you wouldn’t be, you will dig Sex Crime in a major way. If you’re not, this is a great place to start! This interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on March 13th, 2014 Shock Treatment: Please introduce yourselves and how do you contribute to the Sex Crime pogo machine? Celia: Ryan: guitar, vocals, Cecilia: keyboards, vocals, pogo, Holly: bass, vocals, bang bang Tim: stand up drums, vocals The band is based in Portland but wh...

Hey Look, It's toyGuitar!

Musically, toyGuitar picks up right where Jack’s former band One Man Army’s She’s an Alarm EP left off. Jack continues his streak of churning out snappy, quick paced, ultra melodic punk rock. This however isn’t your doom/gloom/death and destruction are imminent style of punk rock though. San Francisco’s tG play a style of music that sends you soaring into the stratosphere and before you know it you’re looking at your troubles far below you where they now seem insignificant. Their self titled EP on Adeline Records, that came out in the latter part of 2013, is an adrenaline shot straight into the heart of life itself, its music that urges you to live fast and take chances. Once you play this record all the way through: you’re unbreakable! This interview originally appeared in Audio Ammunition on June 11th, 2014 Interview by Jay Castro Please introduce yourself and how you contribute to toyGuitar: Hi, I’m Jack and I play the guitar and sing. Miles plays the other guitar and sings as well....
